RSVP Volunteer Opportunities in Central Vermont

The Central VT chapter of Man to Man, a prostate cancer support group for men and their spouses, is in need of a coordinator. Men who are cancer survivors, others needing support while selecting a treatment option, as well as caregivers and others seeking general information about cancer are typical of the Individuals served by the monthly Man to Man meetings. Meetings are held at C.V.M.C. on the third Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:45 PM.

Central VT Public TV is looking for volunteers to video tape court arraignments and high profile cases for a show called "Court TV" the tapings would be for 3-4 hours one or two times a week. All training would be provided.

- Meals on Wheels Drivers are needed to deliver meals to homebound community members throughout Washington County. Drivers not only deliver the meals, they also provide a "check-in" with these vulnerable members, making sure they are doing ok.

- Volunteers are needed to help maintain summer food gardens at local schools in Washington County. These gardens offer fresh nutritional packed food for the kitchen programs and also helps promote healthy eating lifestyle to many students who have never had the opportunity to grow their own vegetables.

- Volunteers are needed to be trained as "Disaster case-managers" who would help provide case-management to community members impacted by future local disasters. Training will be provided.

- Tele-Care is a wonderful way for volunteers to work from home. This program matches volunteer callers up with lonely homebound community members who will receive "friendly phone calls" from the volunteer, increasing a sense of connection to their community for those receiving the calls. I like to think of this as a phone version of the old pen-pal letters.
