RSVP Volunteer Opportunities in Central Vermont 

Battered Women’s Services and Shelter in Barre – needs volunteers to help with meals, read to children and help with the hotline.  Full training is available.

Barre American Legion Post 10 – is looking for a volunteer to help them with brochure design.

Central Vermont Adult Basic Education – is looking for volunteers to help with filing and basic office assistance in their Barre office.  They are also in need of tutors to work with adults on basic literacy.  Training is provided

Central Vermont Council on Aging – is looking for volunteers to assist with filing and correlation.  They are also looking for volunteers who are interested in learning about Medicare parts A, B, C, and D who may have some computer skills.  If you are interested in visiting with elders in their homes and helping to provide transportation to appointments, opportunities are available.

Central Vermont Medical Center – is recruiting a volunteer for the front desk in the main lobby for Monday afternoons 12-4pm and Thursday afternoons 12-4pm.

Friendly Visitors - Looking for volunteers to spend a free hour or two visiting with, or reading to, residents of our local nursing homes.  Visits needed at Mayo HealthCare in Northfield; Heaton Woods in Montpelier; Woodridge Nursing Home and Berlin Health & Rehab in Berlin.

Food Works in Montpelier – is looking for volunteers to help with light bookkeeping and office work.  Experience with QuickBooks and Excel is a plus, but not necessary.

Gifford Medical Center Menig Extended Care Facility – is seeking a friendly visitor for a lonely gentlemen residing at the Menig Extend Care Facility in Randolph.  His interests include woodworking, hunting, the outdoors, farming, and reminiscing about his days in the National Air Guard.  Just one hour a week will really make a difference in his life.

Good Beginnings – needs visitors to new Moms and babies in their homes in Washington County, assisting families with information and support.  Training is provided.

Good Samaritan Haven – needs volunteers to serve as overnight monitors for the shelter, checking guests in and having friendly conversations over a shared meal.

Greater Barre Community Justice Center – is looking for a volunteer to help them transfer case file data from the old system to the new system in Access.  Computer experience a must.  Training provided for Access database.  Data entry will need to be done at the Justice Center in Barre.

Green Mountain Transit – needs drivers to transport clients for medical appointments, shopping and activities.  Mileage will be reimbursed.

Home Share of Central Vermont – is looking for volunteers to interview home owners and home-seekers who want to join the program.  This work helps older people stay independent and remain in their own homes.

Knitters – RSVP is looking for knitters to knit 100% wool helmet liners for our soldiers overseas and prayers shawls and chemo caps for local residents in need.  Please call the office for patterns and additional information.

Meals on Wheels – both the Montpelier Home Delivery Program and The Galley in Barre are looking for volunteers with a valid driver’s license and some spare time to deliver meals to housebound residents in Montpelier and Barre.

Montpelier City Office – is looking for a volunteer to answer the phone and do a bit of filing for a 6 week period.

Prevent Child Abuse – needs children’s group leaders for its weekly meetings.  All training and curriculum is provided.  They are also in need of volunteers to help make dinner for 10 adults and 5 children for their Monday night meetings.  Meal ingredients and assistance with menu are available.

Reading Buddies and Youth Mentors are needed in many local schools.  Call the office today if you are interested in reading to children, listening to children read or assisting with activities in the classrooms.

Savy Seniors Theater Troupe is looking for volunteer actors and actresses to help perform informal skits at senior centers and other community meetings.  All training is provided.

Vermont Department of Libraries – needs machine repair volunteers to clean and service 4-track tape cassette players used for books for the blind.  Some experience with small electronic repairs ideal, but training is available.  Work to be done at their Berlin office.

Vermont Food Bank – needs help sorting products in the warehouse, food prep in the kitchen and packing food for the backpack program for kids.

Vermont Historical Society – needs volunteer greeters and tour guides at the Montpelier museum.  The Barre office is looking for assistance at the front desk and with office tasks.  If you have a love for history, this may be what you are looking for.

Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury – needs activities helpers, especially in the evenings, to present music, help with sing alongs, art activities and a new book cart program.

Washington County Courts are looking for volunteers to serve as Guardians-Ad-Litem, advocating for the rights of children and adults with special needs in our court systems.

Washington County Mental Health – needs people who would like to offer friendship and activities to individuals with mental illness as part of the Gather Program.

 RSVP and the Volunteer Center of Central Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom is an invitation to serve.  Sponsored by the Central Vermont Council on Aging it is a national program designed to provide opportunities for persons of any age who continue to remain actively involved in the life of their community.  A member agency of Lamoille County and the Green Mountain United Way the  aim is to develop specific volunteer opportunities that utilize the particular skills and interests of each individual volunteer, at the same time keeping an eye to what needs to get done in the community. Offices in Barre, Lyndonville, Morrisville and Newport .
