  HOME SHARE OF CENTRAL VERMONT  needs volunteers to interview program applicants. This work helps older people stay in their homes and helps other Vermonters find affordable housing.  Volunteer hours are very flexible. Some interviews take place in Barre, while others involve traveling to applicants’ homes.  Homeshare will provide training, support, encouragement and sometimes cookies.   

WASHINGTON COUNTY COURT (BARRE) needs volunteers to serve as guardians-ad-litem, advocating for the rights of children in court hearings.

MONTPELIER PARKS DEPT needs volunteers for office assistance and to help with the Hubbard Park tower restoration project.

GOOD SAMARITAN HAVEN (BARRE) needs volunteers to serve as overnight monitors for the shelter, checking in guests, talking with guests etc.

HEATON WOODS (MONTPELIER) needs volunteers to be friendly visitors, and read to visually impaired residents.

SCORE (MONTPELIER)  needs a volunteer for office assistance, filing, copying, and answering the phone.

 LOCAL SCHOOLS IN EACH COMMUNITY need reading mentors , who read to children and listen to children read, youth mentors, who share time and activities with kids EVERYBODY WINS , children’s literacy program needs volunteers as reading mentors. Lunchtime hours are possible.

COMMUNITY OF VERMONT ELDERS (BERLIN) needs someone to provide office assistance. Duties include answering the phone and entering data. Computer experience is helpful but not necessary.

GREEN MOUNTAIN TRANSIT AGENCY (WASH. CTY) needs drivers to transport clients for medical appointments, shopping and activities. Training and mileage reimbursement are provided.

GOOD BEGINNINGS (WASH. CTY) needs visitors  to new Moms and babies in their homes, assisting families with information and support. Training is provided. Visitors are especially needed in the Waitsfield and Barre areas..

MAYO HEALTHCARE INC ( NORTHFIELD) needs volunteer readers, and friendly visitors. Volunteers who have a musical talent to share are invited to entertain residents

BROWN PUBLIC LIBRARY (NORTHFIELD)needs library assistants to help shelve books, and assist with circulation, and special events. Hours are flexible

SAVVY SENIORS  theater troupe needs volunteer actors and actresses to help perform skits at senior centers and other community meetings. All training is provided.

MONTPELIER HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM needs a volunteer driver coordinator for the Montpelier area. A small stipend is available.  Also, meal delivery volunteers  are needed.

CENTRAL VT. ADULT BASIC ED (WASH. CTY)  needs volunteer tutors to work with adults on basic literacy and preparation for the GED.  Training is provided.

VT HISTORICAL SOCIETY (MONTPELIER) needs volunteer greeters  to help visitors at the Montpelier museum. Volunteers greet visitors, introduce the exhibits, and staff the bookstore.

HEDDING METHODIST CHURCH (BARRE) needs a volunteer youth mentor to assist in the Teen Center, Thursday and/or Monday afternoons.

VT STATEHOUSE (MONTPELIER) needs volunteer gift shop assistants  and tour guides. Volunteers greet visitors and give helpful information.  All training provided.

GOVERNOR’S OFFICE (MONTPELIER) needs an office assistant to help with filing and mailings at the Pavillion building.

WOODRIDGE NURSING HOME (BARRE) needs readers  and friendly visitors. Musicians are also needed to provide entertainment for the residents.

L.A.C.E.(local agricultural community exchange) (BARRE) needs a story time reader, and children’s activity leaders. Activities such as crafts, puppet shows or musical presentations are a few suggestions

MONTPELIER SENIOR CENTER needs greeters to welcome visitors to the center .  Also needed are musicians to play in the musical groups on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.

WOOD ART GALLERY(MONTPELIER) needs docents to meet and greet visitors to its Vermont College Campus art gallery. Hours are one afternoon from 12-4 Tuesday to Sunday.

ST MONICA’S SCHOOL (BARRE) needs tutors and mentors to help children with reading and/or in the classroom.

ADAMANT COOPERATIVE (CALAIS) needs a project director to help arrange and secure water at their Calais country store. Also needed is a volunteer to provide help with bookkeeping.

NATURE CONSERVANCY(MONTPELIER)needs volunteers to work on field projects and office assistance at its Montpelier office.

FAMILY CENTER OF WASHINGTON COUNTY (MONTPELIER) needs volunteers as child care aides to help children in its infant, toddler and preschool programs. Vermont College location.

CENTRAL VT COMMUNITY LAND TRUST (BARRE) needs a volunteer office assistant to answer the phone and other office duties at its Barre office.

TURTLE ISLAND (MONTPELIER needs a library assistant volunteer to help organize the staff resource library. Also helpers needed to rock babies and help with afterschool programs.

VERMONT PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT(WATERBURY) needs office assistance volunteers to help with filing, matching fingerprints, coding and other office duties. Waterbury state office complex location.

CROSSETT BROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL(WATERBURY) needs a library assistant to help with organizing, shelving books, and checking books out for children.

 RSVP and the Volunteer Center of Central Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom is an invitation to serve.  Sponsored by the Central Vermont Council on Aging it is a national program designed to provide opportunities for persons of any age who continue to remain actively involved in the life of their community.  A member agency of Lamoille County and the Green Mountain United Way the  aim is to develop specific volunteer opportunities that utilize the particular skills and interests of each individual volunteer, at the same time keeping an eye to what needs to get done in the community. Offices in Barre, Lyndonville, Morrisville and Newport .
